CARES Act

**Important Update**

LSC is able to provide emergency financial grants to students to help cover expenses related to disruptions due to the coronavirus such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and child care through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES Act). Summer applications for the CARES Act funds are now being accepted here. Fall applications open July 20. 

To be eligible for emergency funding through the CARES Act, students must:

  • Be enrolled in an approved degree program
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
  • Be registered for Selective Service (if male)
  • Be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress standards

Next Chance Financial Aid Applications due July 1. Complete your application today!

LSC has additional funds to provide students with emergency financial assistance as part of the CARES Act. To determine eligibility, you will need to:

  • Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2020-2021 school year online at www.fafsa.gov or through the myStudentAid mobile app.
  • List Lone Star College to receive your FAFSA information (LSC school code is 011145).
  • Submit any additional documents that are requested. If you are selected for verification or need any additional documentation, requirements will be listed on your to-do list in your myLoneStar student portal.

Frequently Asked Questions

I already received $400 without applying. Can I get more?
Yes. Students who were eligible for Federal Pell Grant were awarded an initial $400, but you can apply for additional funds here if you feel you need more.

Once I submit an application, how long will it take to receive a response?
Due to the large number of applications, please allow 14-21 days for a response.

If I am approved, how long will it take to receive the funds?
If you have direct deposit set up on your student account, the funds will be sent by direct deposit to your bank account within a few business days. If you do not have direct deposit set up, you will receive a paper check in the mail. Paper checks can take up to 1-2 weeks to be received.
