Q. What is the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Grant?

A. The TRIO SSS Grant is a $1.3 million initiative that provides academic support and programming to help current students succeed in their college careers by increasing retention, graduation, and transfer rates to a four-year college or university.

Q. Who is eligible for TRIO?

A. Current students who are classified as first-generation in college, income-limited, or have a documented disability.

Q. What type of resources or services does TRIO provide?

A. Students will receive exclusive, free services such as transfer advising, money management, leadership workshops, and college road trips.

Q. What is the overall goal of TRIO?

A. To provide students with the support and resources to graduate and transfer with as little debt as possible. TRIO helps students foster a rapport with faculty and staff; teach the importance of remaining in good academic standing; and encourage members through various challenges as they earn their associate degrees.

Q. Where is TRIO located at LSC-Kingwood?

Q. When did TRIO begin?

A. The TRIO SSS grant, funded through the U.S. Department of Education, started at Lone Star College in fall 2020. It created the College Advancement Program (CAP), where participants will “Connect! Achieve! Persevere!”

Q. How can I apply to be a TRIO member?

A. Complete an application and submit all required documentation online via www.lonestar.edu/trio-kingwood. They will then receive an opportunity to schedule a short interview. All applicants are encouraged to apply soon as space is limited.
