TOMBALL (June 10, 2025) – Lone Star College–Tomball students pursuing an Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) and aspiring to become educators may be eligible for scholarships of up to $12,000 each through the Lone Star College–Tomball to Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) Teacher Education Direct Pathway, funded by the Charles Butt Foundation.
The partnership, pathway, and scholarship initiative are part of Houston Teacher Pathways, a collaborative effort led by the Houston Endowment and the Charles Butt Foundation. The program aims to address the shortage of educators in Texas, particularly in Greater Houston by strengthening the teaching pathway from community colleges to universities, building a sustainable pipeline of future educators.
Laura Dupree, M.Ed., Coordinator and Professor of the AAT program at LSC–Tomball and Chair of the AAT Curriculum Team at Lone Star College, collaborated with Dr. Beverly Sande, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Special Education, Director of PTA and PERC, and Coordinator for Special Education Programs at PVAMU, to secure funding that supports aspiring teachers in completing their degrees and passing state certification exams.
"Students in the program can expect personalized opportunities designed to help them with not only funding but also mentorship, experiential learning, and differentiated instruction in specialized classrooms while taking classes and when beginning their teaching careers,” said Dupree. “The beneficiaries are our students and then their future students. Considering children are the world's greatest natural resource, this is a tremendous opportunity and a win-win for everyone."
