Lone Star College System reaches new enrollment milestone with more than 100,000 students

Official Day 2026
Lone Star College System is serving more students than ever before in the fall 2026 semester.

Student enrollment at Lone Star College System has surpassed 100,000 for the first time in the college system’s history. Campuses are kicking off the 2026-2027 academic year with 100,023 students taking courses that will help them advance in their educational journeys and careers.

“We are proud to serve each of these students, equipping them with the tools they need to pursue their dreams,” said Christina Hagerty, Ed.D., LSCS senior associate vice chancellor, Curriculum and Instruction. “As the Houston region continues to grow, Lone Star College System is here for local high school students, recent graduates, working parents, international students, veterans returning to civilian life, future Ivy League students, and retirees looking for enrichment opportunities.”

What started with 613 students in 1972 has grown into one of the largest community colleges in the country, with over 20 locations and more than 200 degree and certification programs that empower students to take the next step.

“This historic milestone is only possible because of the extraordinary faculty and staff who serve our students every day,” said Garth Howard, LSCS interim vice chancellor, Student Success. “Whether they are directly educating and encouraging our students in the classroom or supporting and advising them behind the scenes, our employees have ensured Lone Star College System can help individuals get from where they are to where they want to be.”

LSCS is committed to expanding access to high-quality education across the Houston region. From affordable tuition and flexible scheduling to support for mental health, academics, employment opportunities, food assistance, transportation and clothing, the college system makes higher education attainable for tens of thousands of students each year.

LSCS earned the 2025 Star Award from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for its outstanding student success initiatives and transformative educational outcomes. Recognized as the only community college in the student success category, LSCS continues to expand access, increase credential completion and create pathways that prepare students for transfer and high-demand careers.

“It’s close to home, and I enjoy the smaller class sizes and the flexible schedule. I can still work full-time while going to Lone Star College,” said Payton Lucus, LSC-Montgomery business student. “I’m applying to four-year universities, and my advisor at Lone Star has really helped show me different paths I can take.”
