Lone Star College Law Enforcement Academy now accepting applications for summer classes

Seeking a career in law enforcement? Lone Star College Law Enforcement Academy is currently accepting applications for summer classes.

The academy is offering a full-time Basic Peace Officer class July 13 through December 20, 2017, Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. A part-time Basic Peace Officer cohort will also be offered July 13, 2017 through June 29, 2018, Monday through Thursday, from 6 to 10 p.m. All classes will take place at the Lone Star College-Greenspoint Center, located at 250 N. Sam Houston Pkwy E. in Houston.

The application deadline for both the full-time and part time class is Friday, June 2.

The Fast-Track Career Certificate Basic Peace Officer (BPOC) includes rigorous training and testing to ensure each graduating cadet can successfully pass the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement’s state exam and demonstrate the knowledge and physical skills to serve the public in an effective, courteous, and professional manner.

“This credential is also necessary if you choose to continue your education toward an AAS Degree in Law Enforcement,” said Lone Star College Law Enforcement Academy Director, LaChelle Rhoads. “The Basic Peace Officer (BPOC) program can be completed in five months. Upon completion, students are fully qualified to apply as a basic peace officer in the state of Texas.”

As part of the application process, applicants must also pass a standardized physical fitness test. After completing of the course, cadets will take the state licensing exam. Upon passing the state exam, students will be eligible to apply to any law enforcement agency in the state.

Applicants must be 21 by the end of the class, a U.S. Citizen, hold a diploma or G.E.D. and not have a Class B or higher criminal history.

Financial aid is available for the program in the form of TPEG (Texas Public Education Grant). To qualify, please visit Fafsa.ed.gov and complete the application for the appropriate academic year. Lone Star College’s school code is 011145. All prospective students must have a Lone Star College application on file in order for the college to receive your financial aid application.

The LSC Law Enforcement Academy has recently moved building locations from the Lone Star College-University Park campus to the Lone Star College-Greenspoint Center, located at 250 N. Sam Houston Pkwy E., Houston, TX 77060.
