Garden with Nature, Cook with Kim, Question the Commissioner and More at L.I.F.E. Events

LIFE WorkshopsJoin in library book discussions, get gardening and cooking tips, participate in a Q&A with the Commissioner Radack and more at Lone Star College-CyFair’s Wednesday workshops this October.

The free Learning, Inspiration, Friendship and Enrichment (L.I.F.E.) programs are held Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the library (LRNC room 131 unless otherwise noted) at 9191 Barker Cypress.

  • October 2 — Gulf Coast Reads “The Library Book”
    Susan Orlean wrote “The Library Book,” a novel about a fire in the Los Angeles Public Library that includes an ode to why she loves libraries. We will have an informal discussion of what libraries mean to you and a folding book art project. Also, join us on Tuesday, Oct. 8 for a book club discussion from 11a.m.-noon in the library meeting room 131.
     
  • October 9 — Gardening with Nature
    Fall for Houston gardeners means migrating monarch butterflies and ruby-throated hummingbirds. Lucy Abbott, gardener and children’s library specialist, demonstrates how to how to work together with nature to create a garden habitat.
     
  • October 16 — History in our Backyard
    Lone Star College-CyFair’s anthropology professor David Bruner and some of his students report on their progress with UNESCO’s recognition of Houston’s Olive Cemetery and Freedman’s Town.
     
  • October 23 — Ask the Commissioner
    Commissioner Steve Radack of Precinct 3 gives us an update on Harris County including flood control, parks, and other infrastructure.
     
  • October 30 — Cookin’ with Kim
    Get ready for holiday festivities with these easy do-ahead dishes by Kim Liberta, the professional chef behind Cookin’ with Kim.
