Get help filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at LSC-North Harris

April 1 is the priority deadline for fall 2010 financial aid applications, college offers free help sessions

There is money out there for those wanting to attend college. But, how do you find out if you qualify? Easy, Lone Star College-North Harris offers free financial aid assistance service to anyone wanting to attend the college and LSC-North Harris financial aid advisers can help prospective students fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) form as well as helping them to complete the college's financial aid application. A wide-variety of funding is provided by various sources including federal, state and local governments: community organizations, and individuals to help students meet the cost of attendance.

Time is getting short. April 1 is the priority filing for students applying for scholarships, grants and loans wanting to attend college this next fall. By meeting the April 1 deadline, students should be able to find out whether they are eligible for financial aid money or loans before the semester begins. Certain restrictions apply, so it is best to apply early! It is recommended that applicants call the financial aid office at 281.618.5464 before coming in for help, because additional documentation may be needed for certain applications.

Additionally, the college is offering on-site workshops for the last two weeks in March for those needing help to fill out the FAFSA, which is the first and most important step for students seeking financial aid such as grant and loans. Students and their families looking for assistance are invited to attend one theses workshops offered at Lone Star College-North at 2700 W.W. Thorne Drive, Academic Building, room A-203. Workshop dates are below:

o        Tuesday, March 23, 2 to 3 p.m.
o        Thursday, Mar. 25, 11 a.m. to noon
o        Monday, Mar. 29, 9 to 10 a.m.
o        Wednesday, Mar. 31, 9 to 10 a.m. and 5 to 6 p.m.

Those attending are asked to bring the following information: Social Security number; driver's license (if any); 2009 federal tax returns (or 2008 returns if 2009 are not complete); 2009 untaxed income records (Social Security, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, welfare or veterans benefits records); 2009 bank statements; 2009 business and investment mortgage information, business and farm records, and stock, bond, and other investment records; Alien registration card (if you are not a U.S. citizen).
