Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and NHC Writing Center co-host 2007 Editors Day on Feb. 27

The Houston Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators in partnership with the North Harris College Writing Center are hosting their fourth Editor Day. This unique opportunity gives writers and illustrators access to editors, some of whom are from publishing houses that restrict submissions. This year’s 2007 Editor Day is Saturday, Feb. 24, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the North Harris College campus.

Sarah Sevier, editor for HarperCollins Children’s Books;  Judy O'Malley, executive editor of trade books for Charlesbridge Publishing, and Laura Morgan, executive editor at Enslow Publishers are three of the exciting professionals that will be participating in this year’s Editor Day. The speakers will explain the focus of their houses and accept manuscripts and art portfolios from conference attendees.

Those attending Editor Day may bring one appropriate manuscript or art portfolio per editor. Each submission should be in unsealed, 9x12 manila SASE. Art portfolios are defined as 10 samples of 8-1/2 x 11-inch photocopies. Submissions will be gathered, boxed and shipped to the editors. In addition, participants who are SCBWI members and Houston newsletter subscribers have the opportunity to display their books and/or art at the event.

Art and Book display: SCBWI members who are also local newsletter subscribers may participate in an art and book display, which will be open to the public following a private viewing by visiting editors.

Registration fees are $90 for SCBWI members ($120 for non-members). Registration is limited. The event fee also includes a box lunch. A dinner Saturday evening

following Editor Day is planned for editors and attendees. Saturday dinner cost is not included in registration. For more information about additional submission guidelines and/or to register, please visit www.scbwi-houston.org. Click on Events, then choose Editor Day.
