Faculty and Staff Center News

Professional Development and Educational Services (PDES) encompasses the Faculty and Staff Center (FSC) and the Adjunct Center for Excellence (ACE). Collectively, we support LSC-North Harris and its centers by providing technical support, consultation services, and innovative solutions for faculty and staff tailored to their teaching and departmental needs.  Services consist of workshops, one-on-one consultations, virtual assistance, instructional project development, departmental project solutions, and events.

PDES collaborates with the Faculty Senate, Faculty Professional Development Committee, PSSA, and the Staff Professional Development Committee to provide opportunities for growth and development for our faculty and staff.

Summer 2023 Faculty Institute

Summer Faculty Institute 2023 was a great success. The Faculty Development Advisory Council, in collaboration with the Faculty and Staff Center hosted this event for faculty professional development. This three-day faculty development opportunity focused on: Designing and Delivering an Effective Course.

Designing Your Course - If someone outside of academia requested you to create a course, you would need to start by asking them certain questions, such as where it should begin. That is, you would need to picture the course as something that is part of a larger landscape and was created to assist a certain user group in reaching a particular goal.

Delivering Your Course - When a teacher delivers a course, the pupils receive the academic material. Teachers are always looking for ways to make their lessons better. The way that content is delivered greatly impacts how well students and teachers connect.

Demonstrating Your Course - We created groups and provided participants the opportunity to showcase the work they did on designing and delivering a course.
