Engage the Electorate Program
Engage the Electorate
In partnership with Houston Endowment
What is Engage the Electorate?
Engage the Electorate is a three-year grant awarded to Lone Star College with the goal to enhance, fortify, and systemize Civic Engagement activities that focus on civic and voter education and electoral participation in the Greater Houston region our campuses serve. Through this proposed project, LSC Civic Engagement faculty and grant personnel collaborate to combine, replicate, and scale best practices and strategize to implement new initiatives that address electoral participation among students, faculty, and staff.
Grant Goals
Our motivations for this program are twofold: to promote civic and voter education and to encourage electoral participation for all students, faculty, and staff. Below are the five SMART goals outlined for grant:
- Earn designation system-wide as a Voter Friendly Campus by Campus Vote Project Civic and Voter Education.
- Enhance current efforts to ensure all students, faculty, and staff have access to participate in Engage the Electorate & civic engagement activities.
- Educate LSC's community about the political process to increase their trust and sense of agency in their roles in the process and their engagement in community affairs, increasing electoral participation.
- Enhance campus civic engagement culture by providing professional development to faculty and staff and hosting guest speakers.
- Increase the number of campuses that are voting locations.
