Classes
We offer classes ranging from beginning to advanced on a variety of topics, including reading, writing, grammar, and oral communication.
Reading and Vocabulary
This course is designed to improve a students ability to understand and remember written English. There is a special focus on vocabulary and using references such as an online dictionary. The more advanced reading courses prepare students for the transition to college-level reading requirements.
Writing
This course helps students with the grammar and mechanics of written English. Students learn sentence skills in the beginning coursework and transition into composing multi-paragraph essays with the intermediate and advanced classes.
Grammar
The grammar coursework prepares students to produce spoken and written English that is grammatically correct. The classes focus on various verb tenses, parts of speech, and sentence types.
Oral Communication
These classes focus on producing and understanding spoken English. Students will be better prepared for personal, academic, or professional settings and will improve their fluency and accuracy.
Critical Thinking and Discussion
This course is available for Level III-V students (who have tested into Level III, IV, or V or who have passed Level II, III, or IV coursework). Each week introduces a new topic, and students take turns leading their classmates through discussions based on the topics. Students will improve their vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and their ability to express their critical thinking in English.
Integrated Reading and Writing
This class is specifically for Level V students (who have passed Level IV Reading and Writing or who test into Level V). It combines reading and writing and helps advanced students with upper-level skills such as research writing and notetaking. This course prepares students to transition into college coursework.
Academic ESOL (ESL) Program
Students may register for the Academic ESOL (ESL) program as a Credit (academic) student or as a Continuing Education student (no visa requirements). Our ESL classes occur during the fall, spring, and summer semesters:
Fall - September to December (14 weeks)
Spring - January to May (14 weeks)
Summer - June/July or July/August (6 weeks)
The Academic ESOL program aims to prepare ESOL students for college-level study. The courses are divided into four subject areas: grammar, reading, writing, and oral communication.
Programa Académico ESOL (ESL)
Los estudiantes pueden registrarse para el programa Academic ESOL (ESL) como estudiante de crédito (académico) o como estudiante de educación continua (sin requisitos de visa). Nuestras clases de ESL ocurren durante los semestres de otoño, primavera y verano:
