Lone Star College-Tomball, building on its culture of cultivating leaders, is pleased to announce the 2018-2019 Next Generation Leadership Academy Cohort.  The six new members selected for the year-long training program will help LSC-Tomball continue a course that seeks innovative, research-based growth and progress, and is increasingly student success-centric.

“LSC-Tomball’s 2018–2019 Cohort represents some of the best and brightest at our college, and I’m so proud of everyone for investing their time and energy in this unique experience,” said Dr. Lee Ann Nutt, president of LSC-Tomball.  “The Next Generation Leadership Academy provides a great opportunity to explore and develop beliefs about what it takes to guide the community college into the future.”

LSC-Tomball’s 2018–2019 Next Generation Leadership Academy participants include:

  • Jerrel Wade, Vice President of Administrative Services
  • Shelley Diviney, Dean of Instruction
  • Anne Ginnett, Director of LifePATH

  • Deirdre Hayes-Cootz, Assistant Dean of Student Success
  • Donielle Miller, Director of Marketing and Events

The Next Generation Leadership Academy (NGLA) brings together cross-sections of higher education professionals, inspiring them to take a fresh approach to challenges facing community colleges.

Ms. Latoya Hardman Lewis was a Professor of Education when she was selected for the first LSC-Tomball Cohort, two years ago.  She says coming straight out of the classroom and being placed in a group with deans, vice chancellors and administrators was, “Really intimidating at first.”

The experience, however, lifted her confidence and provided a head start on the new data technologies emerging in higher education.  Lewis’s cohort was the first to explore Civitas Learning, a data-driven platform that’s now employed system-wide to track and improve student success.  She says, “The introduction to Civitas opened my eyes to how data could be used to help students succeed like I never imagined before.”

Dr. Nutt is clear about the priority she places on student success and the value of the Next Generation Leadership Academy, saying, “They will absolutely become even stronger leaders and student success results-creators because of it.”

Ms. Lewis was recently named Director of Academic Initiatives and Partnerships (AIP) at LSC-Tomball.  She oversees efforts that help high school-level students transition to college.

Lewis’ team coordinates with local schools on dual credit classes, early college, academic advising, placement testing and career counseling.  Ms. Lewis is the creator of the Instructional Technology Certification Program at LSC-Tomball, which teaches college instructors how to incorporate technology into their classrooms.  She also designed LSC-Tomball’s TEaCH Lab, a model classroom equipped with some of the latest educational technology and furniture that allows for flexibility and mobility within the classroom.  An innovation that was recognized with an article in the Houston Chronicle.
