College Admission
Applicants must first be a student at Lone Star College before applying to the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) Program. If you have not attended classes at any Lone Star College campus within the past year, you will need to submit a new college application or update your existing application before applying to the PTA program.

Program Admission
Admission to the PTA program is competitive. Admission is based on a holistic review of several factors, including completion of pre-requisite courses, grades, ATI-TEAS scores, observation hours, and other admission criteria.
Students must be accepted into the program before enrolling in PTA classes. Upon acceptance, students complete a two-year Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.

Admission Requirements
Admission consists of two rounds:
- Round one: applicants are evaluated on a competitive scoring process based on factors such as completion of courses, grades earned, ATI-TEAS scores, observation hours, PT Tech experience, and other admission criteria.
- Round two: Selected applicants will then be invited for an interview and essay
The PTA program accepts 30 students in each year, with a new cohort beginning in the fall semester.
Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

Minimum Requirements
- Complete with a “C” or higher
- ENGL 1301
- BIOL 2401 lec+lab (BIOL must be less than 7 years old)
- PSYC 2301
- PTHA 1201
- Complete the ATI-TEAS examination (see ATI-Teas section below)
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or more
- Observation Hours: 40 hours of observation under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT) or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA). Observation Form is available HERE
Additional Points
Applicants earn additional points by completing the following courses. These courses are highly encouraged
- BIOL 2402 lec+lab (must be less than 7 years old)
- PHIL 2306
PT Tech Experience
PT Tech Experience: Applicants who have worked as a Physical Therapy Tech/Aid for 90 days or more may receive two (2) application points.
To receive credit, upload a letter from your employer on official company letterhead verifying your employment with your application
Bonus Points
Applicants may earn bonus points for:
- Completing additional designated courses
- Holding previously earned bachelor’s degree. Proof of transcript or diploma will need to be uploaded to the application

ATI-TEAS Test
The ATI TEAS exam must be completed during the same calendar year in which you apply to the PTA program.
Applicants are permitted one attempt during the application cycle.
The examination includes four content areas: Reading, English and Language Usage, Science, and Mathematics.
Registration for ATI-TEAS testing opens on the same day as the application period and closes one week before the application deadline. The exam must be scheduled through the LSC-Montgomery Testing Center.

Requirements Upon Acceptance
Admission to the program is contingent upon successful completion of the following requirements:
- Clear criminal background check
- Negative 10-panel drug screen
- Completion or satisfactory progress on required immunizations/titers
These requirements apply to all students enrolled in Lone Star College health professions programs. Additional information is available HERE

CAPTE Program Outcomes Data
Lone Star College-Montgomery PTA Program Student Outcome Data based on CAPTE AAR submitted in Fall 2025 for Academic Years ending in 2024 and 2025.
- Graduation Rate: This rate is calculated according to the CAPTE formula required in the AAR (which is consistent with the formula used by the federal Integrated Post-secondary Education Data System).
- 1st Attempt Rate: This is the 1st attempt pass rate as published by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy
- Ultimate Pass Rate: This rate is the ultimate pass rate as published by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy.
- Employment Rate: This rate is the % of graduates who were employed as PTAs within twelve months of passing the licensure examination and is current as of 12/9/2025.
