Explore East Malaysia with Sandra Grebe

Come join us to a presentation by Sandra Grebe, faculty of Biology and a recipient of an FIE grant for travelling through East Malaysian provinces, Sabah and Sarawak, which are found on the island of Borneo.

Writing in Exile

Come join us for a presentation by novelist, Farnoosh Moshiri as she will address Iranian women’s writer in exile and will read from her novels.

Movie: SlumDog Millionaire
November 14th*  Noon  - 2 :00 p.m. * Fairbanks Center, Room 206
Presenter: Professor, Padmaja Vedartham
Movie Plot: A Mumbai teen who grew up in the slums, becomes a contestant on the Indian version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" He is arrested under suspicion of cheating, and while being interrogated, events from his life history are shown which explain why he knows the answers.

Explore the Mayan Culture with Professor Heather Gamber
November 17th* 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. * TECH 102
Travelling in Chiapas, Mexico for 11 days, Professor Gamber will introduce the ancient Maya's mathematics, their astronomy and calendar, including the modern Mayan weaving.

History of Gypsies (Presentation for L.I.F.E. group)

A brief introduction of the history of gypsies will follow with a live band, "The Gypsies," Houston's award winning European-style strolling and ethnic dance band.

Movie Plot: After thirteen and half years in prison for kidnapping and murdering the boy Park Won-mo, Geum-ja Lee is released and tries to fix her life.
