LSC-North Harris Steel Band in concert with International Recording Artist Andy Narell on April 7

The Lone Star College-North Harris Steel Band will be performing in concert with international recording artist, Andy Narell and special guests Relator and Mark Walker, Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the Performing Arts Theater (ARTS-115). The community is invited to attend this free event.

“Our student performers will have the opportunity of a lifetime by sharing the stage with international musicians of this caliber,” said Jeff Gleason, department chair of music. “Andy Narell is the world's leading authority on the steel drum, and he has asked to return in concert with the steel band here at Lone Star College-North Harris.”

The steel band consists of 60 members, 20 of them being from LSC-North Harris. The steel band features authentic Trinidadian steel pans accompanied by additional percussion including drum set, congas, scrapers, shakers, and other Latin percussion instruments. The pans are transformed 55 gallon steel barrels and range from soprano down to bass voices. The band showcases Calypso music from Trinidad and Tobago, as well as other styles from the West Indies and beyond.
