LSC-Tomball “Disability Day” program celebrates different abilities

Everyone is the same—only different.  On October 23, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Lone Star College-Tomball will host its 9th Annual Disability Awareness Day, a day of exploration, education and celebration of those differences with students, employees and community members.  The event is free and open to the public.

For the first half of the program, high school students will be given a tour of the campus and introduced to the many ways LSC-Tomball supports its students with disabilities while college and high school personnel and community members learn how higher education is striving to help ensure the future success of individuals with special needs.

For the second half of the program, all attendees will be treated to a talent show — “Trevor’s Howling Showcase” — featuring the art, music and comedy of LSC-Tomball students with disabilities, traditional students, and employees.  Following the show, instructors and community members will have an opportunity to meet vendors serving the special-needs community before reconvening for an additional presentation and breakout sessions.

LSC-Tomball is committed to ensuring that equal access to its educational programs, activities, and facilities occurs for students with disabilities. Disability Services at each of the six Lone Star College campuses assists current and future students by determining and recommending appropriate academic support services, helps students with disabilities make a successful transition to college, and acts as a referral source for services both on campus and within the community.
