Lone Star College has the largest number of online students in Texas according to new data released by the U.S. Department of Education.
In a list compiled from this data by Inside Higher Ed, a national digital education publication, LSC is also ranked 18th nationwide among both four-year and two-year institutions, with a total online enrollment of 28,841 students in 2018. This total includes students who were enrolled entirely online (11,524 students) and those who were enrolled online for some but not all their courses (17,317 students).
According to the report, LSC online student enrollment grew 32.2% from 2015 to 2018.
“Lone Star College is committed to providing high-quality academic and workforce programs in the classroom, online or a combination of both,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor. “We have worked hard to ensure Lone Star College students have access to obtaining their education, no matter where they are.”
LSC offers more than 20 fully-online programs, allowing students flexible options to help them achieve their goals. Areas of study include academic transfer degrees; business and professional services; computer and digital technology; and teaching.
Nationwide, according to the Inside Higher Ed report, more than 20 million students were enrolled online in 2018, which was a .6% decline compared to 2017. Nearly 6 million of total enrollment were students attending two-year institutions.
