The Laramie Project Opens April 19

The Lone Star College–CyFair Theatre presents “The Laramie Project” by Moises Kaufman and the Members of Tectonic Theater Project April 19 through April 29.

 Ron Jones and Laura Taggett are co-directing this astonishing docu-play that chronicles the lives of the residents of Laramie, Wyoming in the year after the passing of Matthew Shepard, a hate crime victim, who was murdered in 1998. 

This breath-taking theatrical collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable is recommended for mature audiences.

Cast members, who will each play numerous characters, include Aleks Borrensen, Alex Box, Steve Bullitt, John Crum, Elaine Edstrom, Jeanette Filardo, Heather Fisher, Quinnlon Holman, Norelia Reed, Michael Schmidt, Cody Swiger, Laura Taggett , Vanessa Toro and Jason Woodward.
 
This production opens April 19 with preview night tickets only $5. Other show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 4 p.m. Thursday, April 26 and 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29.

A reception will follow the April 20 and the April 26 performance, which will be sponsored by Lone Star College–CyFair Gay Lesbian Bi-Sexual Transgender and Allies Student Organization.

There will also be panel discussion following the Saturday, April 28 performance discussing issues ranging from civil rights, advocacy, discrimination, balancing committed relationships and family, as well as other issues relating to tolerance and acceptance.  Refreshments will be served.
 
Tickets are $12, seniors $10 and students $5 with proper id. Discounted group tickets are also available.

All performances will be held in the Main Stage Theatre located in the Center for the Arts building, located at 9191 Barker Cypress at West Road.
