Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF)

Emergency Financial Aid Grants for Students

Lone Star College students may be eligible for Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF).  Funds were provided to higher education institutions through three different legislative acts: first the CARES Act passed in March 2020, then the CRRSAA passed in December 2020, and finally the ARP passed in March 2021.  This aid is not a loan and does not have to be paid back.

Please note:

  • Students are only eligible for HEERF funds once per semester.
  • Students need to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.FAFSA.ed.gov and enter Lone Star College's School Code of 011145.
  • Students must be currently enrolled in a credit program or approved non-credit certificate program.

Requirements to Qualify

For Spring 2022 Lone Star College identified eligible students based on their enrollment on February 1, 2022.  Students enrolled only in courses that began after February 1, 2022 were identified on their enrollment on the earliest Official Date of Record for their course(s).  Lone Star College prioritized funds for students with exceptional need by identifying Federal Pell Grant recipient students to award based on the following credit hour enrollment scale:

  • Students enrolled in 6 hours or less received $750
  • Students enrolled in 7-11 hours received $1,050
  • Students enrolled in 12 hours or more received $1400

Lone Star College identified students enrolled in a degree or certificate program who are not receiving Federal Pell Grants, to award based on the following credit hour enrollment scale:

  • Students enrolled in less than 6 hours or less received $100
  • Students enrolled in 7-11 hours received $225
  • Students enrolled in 12 hours or more received $350

In addition, LSC identified Continuing Education (CE) Workforce students and awarded them $750 each and LSC identified Continuing Education (CE) non-Workforce students and awarded them a flat $100 each.

Additional Information about HEERF

The COVID-19 global pandemic continues to disrupt and create challenges in the everyday lives of people across the country and the world. We plan to assist as many of our students as possible with these Student Aid Grants to support continuing your education and balancing your other responsibilities. These funds may be used for any component of cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as food, housing, health care (including mental health care) and childcare. Students that receive HEERF Student Aid Grants do not have to repay them.
