Program Details

• The Lone Star College Mexican American Studies program supports an interdisciplinary academic program designed to study, recover, and disseminate knowledge of the history, culture, and intellectual legacy of Mexican American peoples in the United States. Lone Star College considers social change fundamental for the empowerment of the Mexican American population who are disproportionately impacted by legacies of colonialism, racism, patriarchy, and their contemporary manifestations.

Program Highlights

• The Mexican American Studies program is unique in that it integrates ethnic studies, history, anthropology, theology, literature, and the arts. It is an interdisciplinary program whose academic foundations focus on the study of culture, history, religion, and politics as well as expressive arts, literature, and language.

Credentials and Careers

• The Mexican American Studies AA is comprised of 60 credit hours that can be completed in 4 semesters.
• Mexican American Studies majors pursue careers in education, museum studies and the cultural arts, non-profit management, social work, public health, as well as law and politics.
