Maverick First Year Experience (FYE)
EDUC 1300
The strategies for EDUC 1300 is a small, engaging class for first year students. Your first year of college is both exciting and overwhelming! EDUC 1300 is o greet way for you to learn about what it takes to be successful at LSC-Montgomery and beyond. Both our Faculty and Staff are here to help you smoothly transition to college life. EDUC 1300 is a 3-credit hour, graded course, that is offered in the Fall and Spring terms.
CLASS OBJECTIVES - The course is designed to assist you in achieving the following goals:
- Practice research-based strategies for academic success
- Apply these strategies to your daily habits and college life
- Build confidence in your ability to perform college-level tasks
- Understand how your strengths and motivation impact your success
- Set effective academic and personal goals
- Learn to make smart decisions around academics, finances, careers, and wellness
- Improve how you manage stress, time, and responsibilities
COURSE TOPICS - The curriculum of the course has been created to ensure a first year student's ultimate college success. This means that by the end of the course, you will have bettered your academic and mental abilities through learning them following:
- Learning Styles and Strengths
- Goal Setting and Motivation
- Time Management and Decision Making
- Stress Management and Academic Resiliency
- Study, Note Taking and Test Taking Strategies
- Academic Writing and Presentation Skills
- Evaluating Academic Sources
- Information Fluency
- Knowledge of Campus Resources
- First-Year Interest Groups (FIGs) & Learning Communities

Introducing MavQuest, an exciting First Year Experience initiative built into your EDUC 1300 journey. MavQuest gives you real-world experiences to help you start thinking about your career path right now, not later. From networking to exploring careers hands-on, MavQuest brings your future into focus.
EVENT PARTICIPATION RAFFLE
Students who participate in these events will receive tickets. At the end of the semester, these tickets will be entered into a raffle during our End-of-Semester Bash, where we will celebrate students for completing EDUC.
