LSC-University Park Humanities Department

Humanities Department Banner

The Lone Star College-University Park Humanities Department offers transferable courses that explore culture and values, introducing students to history, literature, music, philosophy and arts across the ages and around the world. A valuable addition to any degree plan, humanities studies emphasize critical thought and cultural awareness, skills that benefit students not only in future classes, but in future careers as well.

Courses may be taken out of sequence, so students can begin exploring creative expression and the human condition in any or all of LSC-University Park’s online or face-to-face humanities classes.

Dear Stranger Letter Writing Project

Dear Stranger is a recurring letter-exchange project that connects people through the mail to share experiences, beliefs, and ideas. Since 2014, almost 1,000 people have exchanged letters through the project, created by Oregon Humanities. This is an excellent project, especially during this trying time when connection is so limited. It is adaptable to many disciplines and an excellent extra credit opportunity. Everyone is invited to participate—whatever your age, your place of residence, or your circumstances, Dear Stranger wants to hear from you.
