ASL Interpreter Training Technology Program

LSC in American Sign Language
The Interpreter Training Technology program prepares graduates for entry-level careers as American Sign Language/English Interpreters. Its goal is to provide graduates with a strong academic and technical foundation and the interpreting skills necessary for state certification.

PLA Credit

  1. Visit the website: http://www.lonestar.edu/exam-credit.htm. Locate and complete the application by selecting "PLA Internal Challenge Exam" under the "Quick Link" section on the right-hand side.
  2. Consult your Academic Advisor: After completing the application, meet with your Academic Advisor to initiate the process. Once the form is signed by the advisor, proceed to the Business Office to pay the exam fee. Please note, exam fees are nonrefundable.
  3. Eligibility: You are not eligible to take the PLA if you have previously enrolled in SGNL 1401.
  4. Provide required information: Email Candace Sexton-Ruiz with your full name and ID number at least 72 hours prior to the exam.
  5. Test day instructions: Bring the signed form along with the receipt to the exam. You will only be permitted to take the test if both documents are presented.
  6. Post-exam procedure: After completing the exam, the tester will sign the form and provide copies—one for your records and one for official processing. The original form will be sent to the Advising Office for further action.
  7. Transcript updates: The PLA credit will not appear on your transcript until you have earned a minimum of 6 credits at any LSC campus.
  8. Next steps after passing: Upon passing the PLA, you must enroll in additional courses to replace the credits earned through the exam.

It is recommended that you review Signing Naturally Unit 1-6 book in preparation for SGNL 1401.
