In-Person Tutoring

The STAR Center offers several individualized locations on campus to assist you with your in-person tutoring needs. Our tutors are dedicated professionals who create a supportive environment to assist you in mastering course content and achieving success in the classroom. Our tutoring areas also offer many study resources, including textbooks, models, bones, digital microscopes, slides, rock samples, and free access to computers.

In-person tutoring is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments available in some subjects. View our service hours above for each available subject for the current semester. If you have any questions, please contact MC-Tutoring@LoneStar.edu.

The Write Place services include free consultations in writing, ESOL support, reading, and public speaking to improve students writing, communication, and reading comprehension skills across the academic curriculum.

The Language Lab is equipped with computers with specialized programs that offer students complementary support, and students will find dedicated tutors that will help them master the language they are studying. Click to view our service hours.

The Math Homework Lab offers individualized and group-based, course-content-focused tutoring for a broad selection of math courses. Resources available at the lab include textbooks and free access to computers. Click to view our service hours.

The HUB consists of two rooms that provide centralized access to tutoring and academic coaching services.

  • HUB 1 (F102) offers tutoring services in accounting, chemistry, geology, and physics (*math & writing only on Saturday). Click to view our service hours.
  • HUB 2 (F112) offers academic coaching where our coaches help students develop and improve such skills as time management, study planning, note taking, and many more. Click to view our service hours.

In-Person Appointments

In-person appointments. Choose your desired subject and a date & time. Enter your details (name, email, student ID number, & description/comments) and submit. ?After submitting your appointment request, you will receive a confirmation email.?

Online Tutoring

Lone Star College, in partnership with Brainfuse/TutorMatch, offers all enrolled students online tutoring services in a variety of subjects. Students have two options for online appointments:

  • Primary Option | LSC Tutor: Students can have unlimited tutoring sessions each semester with an LSC Tutor at no extra cost. Appointments are limited to subject and tutor availability; view our service hours for details. Students can schedule appointments through Brainfuse/TutorMatch; click on the Appointment Details tab to see more.
  • Secondary Option | Brainfuse Tutor via Live Help: As a secondary option, students also have access to 90 minutes of free tutoring per academic year with Brainfuse Tutors. Appointments can be scheduled 24/7 through Brainfuse/LiveHelp. (Note: If a student wishes to use more than 90 minutes of tutoring with Brainfuse, they will need to pay for further tutoring.)

Online Tutoring Appointment Details

Scheduling an Online Appointment (with LSC Tutor):
  • Sign in to my.LoneStar.edu and click on the “LSC-Online" tile.
  • Select the “Online Tutoring” option to access Brainfuse.
  • In the Tutor Match section, select a topic and subject. Need to meet with a writing consultant? Select “English” for the subject.
  • Click “Schedule” to request a session date and time with a tutor. Want to meet with an LSC-Montgomery tutor specifically? Select a tutor that has the “MC” designation at the end of their name.
  • Complete the request form and select “Request Session."
  • A notification will appear on your calendar. Notice that your appointment has not yet been confirmed by the tutor. The “Enter” button will appear after the tutor confirms the appointment.

Need to schedule an in-person appointment instead? 


Accessing your Confirmed Online Appointment:
  • Sign in to my.LoneStar.edu and click on the “LSC-Online" tile.
  • Click the “Appointment” link (located under Schedule) to open your calendar OR select “My Calendar” from the student dropdown menu.
  • Click “Enter” to open your appointment. You may see an error message if the tutor is not in the appointment yet. Click “Ok,” wait a minute or so, and try again..


Submitting a Paper via Brainfuse/WritingLab:
  • Sign in to my.LoneStar.edu and click on the “LSC-Online" tile.
  • Select the “Online Tutoring” option to access Brainfuse.
  • In the Writing Lab section, select “Submit Paper” to start. If you want an LSC tutor, select the Lone Star College Tutor Review.
  • Complete the form: Be sure to specify if you have a specific citation format (MLA, APA, etc.) Select three areas you would like to tutor to focus on Write the instruction you received for the assignment Attach the paper you want reviewed Write any comments or notes for the tutor
  • Click “Submit.”
  • You should receive a response within one business day. After your work has been reviewed by a tutor, a notification will appear in your Brainfuse inbox. When you open the message, you will see the comments in the blue box.

Useful Tips:
  • Brainfuse/TutorMatch provides a whiteboard on the screen; the whiteboard tools are in the gray toolbar at the bottom of the screen, and the audio connection and the chat window are on the right.
  • To use the chat window, type your message in the box at the bottom of the window; to post your message click "Enter" or click on the paper airplane icon to the right of the box.
  • To see your audio connection options, click on the phone icon or on the drop-down arrow at the top of the chat window ; select "My Computer,” then click "OK.”
  • Submit an optional survey with feedback after your session.

Academic Coaching

Academic coaching is a live interactive one-on-one session with an academic coach that provides support and assistance in improving academic skills & performance. Time Management, Study Skills, Study Planning, Note Taking, Test Taking, and Online Learning are just some of the topics a coach can work with you in order to become more effective and successful in your academic goals. Academic Coaching is offered both in-person and online, and availability may change from semester to semester.

Having the ability to set and achieve goals is an essential part of every successful student’s game plan. In our Goal Setting workshop, not only will we teach you how to set the right goals for yourself, but we will also show how to reach them no matter what hurdles may stand in your way.

Whether you realize it or not, everyone has preferences on how they learn something new. Knowing your preferences can help you learn more efficiently and effectively as a student. Our Learning Styles workshop will help you discover what your preferences are and how to use all the different learning modalities while studying.

Being a college student can simply be stressful and can impact you in ways you may not even realize. Our Student Stress Management workshop will help you identify what your stressors are and help you learn some coping mechanisms to make certain your student life is more successful and easier to navigate.

Everyone experiences failure at some point. It is how we handle failure that determines our future successes. Learn how to view failure as an asset and the strategies that will turn failure into a tool for reaching your next goal in our How to Handle Failure workshop.

Students will learn the very basic fundamentals of starting and working with a Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint document in a one-on-one session setting.
