It is the responsibility of each program to identify all students doing clinical, practicum, internship or co-operative coursework related to technical training, allied health occupations, child care, interpreting, cosmetology, etc., to ensure coverage is provided on behalf of the student.
This coverage is underwritten by the Chicago Insurance Company in the amount of $1,000,000 for each incident or occurrence, and $3,000,000 in the aggregate. The students purchasing the insurance are the Named Insured.
The System is required to provide certificates of insurance for specific limits, terms and conditions; therefore, students with existing personal professional liability insurance are still required to purchase the insurance.
Faculty members and the System are also Named Insured on the policy, but “solely as respects claims arising out of the supervision/instruction of the Insured students for covered Incidents.” On an individual basis, many of our faculty/instructors purchase personal medical professional liability insurance for additional protection which may be subject to reimbursement by the college. Faculty may purchase personal coverage from the System’s insurance agent, their personal agent, or a professional organization.
