Lone Star College-CyFair’s Dance Team earned a national championship title with their first-place division win at the recent Showtime International National Drill Team Competition in Galveston.
“We worked really hard and even surprised ourselves,” said Ashley Martinez, one of 10 dance team members. “We couldn’t be more proud to represent LSC-Cy-Fair.”
Other members of this award-winning team are Andrea Cantu, Margo Elder, Karla Gonzalez, Jamie Hackbarth, Jalia Henry, Mirela Kapic, Katarina Rodriguez, Cera St. Mary and Tiffany Walter.
“The Dance Team is a great opportunity to meet girls with a common interest, as well as a fun way to be involved in the school,” said Elder.
The college dance team is in its eighth year of performing a mixture of jazz and hip-hop routines at various campus events, basketball games and community events, said Lisa Brashier, team coach.
“The LSC-CyFair Dance Team works hard all year to support the college,” said Brashier. “They are a wonderful group of young ladies to work with and I am proud of all they have done.”
Tryouts for next year’s team will be August 16. For information, go to LoneStar.edu/dance-cyfair.
