Lone Star College announces finalists for president of LSC-CyFair

Three finalists have been named for the position of LSC-Cy Fair president to replace outgoing president Dr. Audre Levey, who retired earlier this month.

Dr. Deana Sheppard is serving as interim president until a new president is selected.

The finalists are Dr. Seelpa Keshvala, Dr. Karén Clos and Dr. Stephen Schoonmaker

“The search advisory committee did an excellent job of reviewing applications, selecting and interviewing eight semi-finalists, and recommending three talented finalists to interview,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor.

Dr. Keshvala has been president of the Warsaw Campus of Ivy Tech Community College, Warsaw, Indiana, since March 2014 where she previously served as vice chancellor and executive dean. Keshvala served as executive director of the Educational Opportunity Fund Program and Recruitment, Burlington County College, Pemberton, New Jersey. Keshvala also taught GED/HSED at Milwaukee Area Technical College for six years and was a third and fourth-grade teacher at Milwaukee Public Schools from 1998-2002.

Dr. Clos currently serves as the chief advancement officer/executive director for the Foundation Board and Alumni Association Board, Texas A&M University-Central Texas, where she has been since 2012.  A member of the university’s inaugural accreditation team, Clos and her colleagues received the President’s Award for Distinguished Service for leadership contributions resulting in the university’s accreditation. Clos served as the President of the Community College of Denver from 2008-2011 where she was awarded the Shirley B. Gordon Award for Outstanding Community College CEO. Clos also served as a faculty member in the Counseling Department of San Antonio College and prior to that, as department chair of the ABE/GED/ESL Program, St. Phillips College, Texas, where she began her career as a GED Instructor.

Dr. Schoonmaker has served as the president of College of the Ouachitas, Arkansas, since January 2012.  Shoonmaker has served as vice president for instruction, Clatsop Community College, Oregon; vice president instruction and student services, Southwestern Oregon Community College; associate dean, Arts and Sciences, Albuquerque TVI (now Central New Mexico Community College); interim associate director of Student Services, University of New Mexico-Valencia campus; human rights and social services analyst for the City of Salem, Oregon; assistant to the dean of students and director of student development, Western Oregon State College (now Western Oregon University); and director of student activities, Reed College, Oregon.

“My sincere thanks to the search advisory committee members for their hard work and dedication during this process,” said Head.
