WHAT CHAPTER AM I ?

For your convenience packets are available at your financial aid office.

CHAPTER 30, VeteranBLUE PACKET=New applicant that has never applied for GI Bill benefits before.

  • If you enlisted into active duty after June 30,1985 and contributed $100 per month for the first 12 months of active service, then you may be eligible for a VA benefit program called Chapter 30.

CHAPTER 1606, Selective Reserves: PINK PACKET=New applicant that has never applied for GI Bill benefits before.

  • If you are currently participating in a 6 year enlistment, reenlist, or extension of an enlistment, in the Selective Reserve, then you may be eligible for the VA benefit program called Chapter 1606.

CHAPTER 35, Dependent: RED PACKET=New applicant that has never applied for GI Bill benefits before.

  • Dependents and survivors of certain veterans who have serious disabilities as a result of their service (100% disabled), who have died of a service connected cause, are a prisoner of war, or are missing in action, may be eligible for the VA benefits program called Chapter 35.

CHAPTER 31, disabled veteran: ORANGE PACKET= Vocational Rehabilitation

  • Any veteran of WW II or thereafter, who has a service-connected disability which entitles him or her to VA disability, and who is in need of vocational rehabilitation because of the disability, may request VA benefits program called Chapter 31.
  • NOTE:  Prior approval from the Houston VA Vocational Rehabilitation is required.

COLLEGE TRANSFER/CHANGE OF DEGREE PLAN, Veteran, Ch. 30 and Ch. 1606: GREEN PACKET

  • TRANSFER: Veteran who has received GI Bill benefits before and is transferring from another school.
  • CHANGE OF DEGREE PLAN: Veteran who is a current student and wants to change his/her degree plan.
  • FORMER STUDENT: Veteran who is a former Lone Star College System student, has received GI Bill benefits before, and is returning after being absent for 3 consecutive semesters.

COLLEGE TRANSFER/CHANGE OF DEGREE PLAN, Dependent, Ch. 35: YELLOW PACKET

  • TRANSFER: Dependent of a veteran who has received GI Bill benefits before and is transferring from another school.
  • CHANGE OF DEGREE PLAN: Dependent of a veteran who is a current student and wants to change his/her degree plan.
  • FORMER STUDENT: Dependent of a veteran who is a former Lone Star College System student, has received GI Bill benefits before, and is returning after being absent for 3 consecutive semesters.

Please complete the packet that pertains to you and return it to your financial aid office and ask that it be sent via inner-office mail to the Veteran Services System office, or send via U.S. Postal mail to the System Office Veteran Services.
