Dual Credit Students

What is Dual Credit?

Dual credit is part of the Lone Star College’s exceptional admissions program, designed specifically for high school students ready for college-level instruction.

High school students who wish to enroll in dual credit classes must satisfy the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements. The TSI Assessment is designed to assess students’ college readiness in reading, writing, and math to determine if the student meets the state requirements to enroll in college-level courses.

Students who demonstrate college readiness on a placement exam, such as the TSI Assessment, can earn college and high school credits simultaneously by attending classes given at their high school or through a Lone Star College campus that has a dual credit agreement with their school or school district.

LSC-Tomball has dual credit agreements with the following schools:

Tomball ISD, Waller ISD, The Banff School, Concordia Lutheran High School, Cypress Christian School, Rosehill Christian School

***Students who are interested in taking courses at Lone Star College for high school credit should talk to their high school dual credit guidance counselor to get approval before proceeding through the registration process.

Steps to Registering for Dual Credit (TSI) Testing

1. Apply

In order to test, you will need to apply to the college and receive a LSC Student ID number. This can be done at http://www.lonestar.edu/admissions.htm.

2. Advisor Meeting

Meet with your high school dual-credit counselor or LSC advisor to obtain a testing ticket.

3. Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA)

This state of Texas mandated activity must be completed in your myLoneStar account PRIOR to arriving for testing. Instructions on how to navigate through the activity can be found by clicking on the link titled “PAA Instructions” in the box on the left.

(*Note – Be sure to hit the “Continue” button at the end of the activity so your completion is documented. Otherwise, you will be asked to complete the PAA again.)

If you are having difficulty accessing the PAA via myLoneStar, contact the Office of Technology Services (OTS) at 832-813-6600.
