  • Use social media, email, phone calls and video tools to stay connected with family and friends. Some common video tools are Skype, Facetime, Google Hangouts, and WhatsApp.
  • Call a friend if youíre feeling anxious or overwhelmed.
  • Take time out of your day to check on others who may need emotional support during this time.
  • Host a Netflix Party. Netflix subscribers can link up with family and friends and host a long-distance movie night.

Health and Wellness

Manage your stress by being mindful about certain parts of your day that you might otherwise take for granted. Being mindful in your actions is key.

  • Keep Busy! Try to develop a routine like your normal day. This may include scheduling time to complete work and school responsibilities, prepare and eating meals and household chores.
  • Take a News Break! Constant exposure to unsettling news on TV and social media can cause anxiety and stress. Try to limit the amount of time you expose yourself to news about COVID-19.
  • Donít dismiss your feelings! Acknowledging that you are stressed is the first step towards dealing with it. Learn the Signs and Symptoms of Stress and additional coping strategies.
  • Be Prepared! Take practical steps to protect you and your family. Learn more tips here: CDC Preparedness.
  • Make healthy choices: Good self-care includes healthy eating, regular exercise and getting adequate sleep. Try to avoid excessive use of alcohol and other unhealthy substances. Maintain a healthy routine using some of the tips and resources below:


Engage in healthy activities to help you relax. Rereading your favorite book, taking a quick walk around the neighborhood, stretching, taking a hot bubble bath or shower and coloring are some examples of easy ways to help you relax. Crisis Resources and Support: An essential component in fulfilling the Lone Star College mission is to create a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.  In order to fulfill LSCís mission and comply with federal and state requirements, all new students will be required to complete the New LSC Student Campus Health, Safety, and Risk-Management Awareness (CHSRMA) Online Modules.  These modules include education and information on Campus Sexual Assault, Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention, as well as Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.

Lone Star College Counseling Services: Lone Star College counselors are masterís level counseling professionals who are trained to assist you in meeting your academic, career and personal goals. Change, stress and personal growth are all elements of the college experience. We are dedicated to helping you succeed through a variety of services.

Communities in Schools of Houston: Students at LSC-North Harris have access to professional counselors through Communities in Schools of Houston who help connect students to the services they need.
