Continuing Education

Continuing Education consists of fast-track certificates or courses to quickly train students for a high-demand job. Programs focus on the key technical and behavioral skills needed in the targeted occupation. Each certificate program includes either industry-recognized certification, State or National occupational accreditation. Classes are offered, day, evening, hybrid, weekend, and online. Continuing Education Programs offered at LSC-North Harris include Accounting Assistant, Nurse Aide (CNA), General Education, Payroll Accounting, Phlebotomist and Electrocardiography Technician.

The non-credit, fast-track Accounting Assistant program provides hands-on training in Excel, QuickBooks, accounting fundamentals, and payroll management. Learn to maintain accurate payroll records, handle employee status changes, file financial documents, and assist with payroll deductions. No admissions testing required; offered fully in-person in English or Bilingual (Spanish/English). The Payroll Assistant program builds on the foundation of our Accounting Assistant/Bookkeeper program, extending instruction to prepare for payroll-related roles in payroll accounting, processing and management. A Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) helps patients or clients with healthcare needs under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse. A CNA can work in nursing homes, hospitals, adult day care centers, personal homes, assisting living facilities, hospice care, MHMR (mental health/mental retardation) state facilities or even the prison system. CNA's provide basic quality-of-life needs for patients and help them with daily tasks they are unable to perform independently.

This program is fully in-person and prepares students for the Texas Department of Health and Human Services State Examination. Attendance is required to obtain hours required by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability. Lecture and skills training is in-person at LSC-North Harris. Clinical training for this program is offsite at a local Residential Care Facility. Additional requirements may be required by the clinical training site.

Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Certificate

Career Opportunities for Nurse Aide Program Graduates 
Students who complete the Nurse Aide program and obtain certification are eligible for a wide range of entry-level positions within the healthcare field. These roles are commonly found in hospitals, long-term care facilities, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers, home health agencies, retirement communities, and community clinics.

General education courses include basic mathematics designed to provide remediation in developmental basic mathematical skills necessary for college readiness and the Texas Success Initiative (TSIA2) assessment. Courses include Preparatory Algebra I and Preparatory Algebra II.

A phlebotomist is a healthcare professional who specializes in drawing blood from patients for testing, transfusions, donations or research. They collect blood samples to be analyzed for health conditions such as diseases, bacteria, cholesterol, and more. Phlebotomists work in hospitals, clinics, and laboratories, ensuring specimens are properly collected, labeled, and sent to the lab for analysis, following precise medical guidelines.

This program is fully in-person and prepares students interested in certification. Lecture and skills training is in-person at LSC-North Harris. Clinical training for this program is offsite at a local Residential Care Facility. Additional requirements may be required by the clinical training site.

An EKG/ECG Technician is a healthcare professional who records a patient's heart activity using an electrocardiogram (EKG) machine. Technicians take the patient’s medical history, attach electrodes to the skin, and run the test to monitor heart rhythm and detect any abnormalities. The technician then provides the results to a cardiologist for analysis. EKG/ECG technicians typically work in hospitals, diagnostic clinics, and cardiology offices. This fast-track program includes preparation for national certification through the American Certification Agency for Healthcare Professionals (ACA).

Career Opportunities for EKG/ECG Technician Graduates 
Graduates of the EKG/ECG Technician program who obtain certification as a Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) are qualified to pursue employment in a variety of healthcare settings. These professionals play a critical role in cardiac care, supporting the diagnosis and monitoring of heart conditions through electrocardiograms (EKGs), stress testing, Holter monitoring, and more.

Payment Options for Continuing Education Programs

Our program maintains partnerships with agencies for varied funding option amounts including Humble Area Assistance Ministries, Texas Public Education Grant, Volunteers of America, Wesley Community Center and more! Grant opportunities could cover up to 100% in tuition, books, supplies and more. Students seeking funding must meet all criteria set by the funding agency in addition to eligibility requirements for the CE program.

Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL)

The Academy for Lifelong Learning is a membership* community in Continuing Education that offers free and low-cost classes, events and activities for adults aged 50 and older. Choose from technology, health and wellness, financial planning, community service projects, literary discussion groups, genealogy, arts and crafts, history, and more. There are no educational prerequisites required to attend classes.
*The $25 registration fee covers membership for the academic year. All classes are free (includes all Lone Star College campuses) with the registration fee. Membership fees are non-refundable and required annually.

Courses at LSC-North Harris are listed on a real-time calendar which members can access from their phones. This enables members to verify dates, times, locations, and course details.
