Writing Selection Process and the Creative Writing Contest
Once students submit their poetry and short fiction pieces for possible publication, the advisors remove all names of the authors and then distribute duplicated copies of the submissions for the student staff to read. Next, the staff members discuss the pieces and vote, choosing the final selections for publication in the magazine.
All Inkling writing submissions selected for publication by the student staff are considered as entries in the LSC-Tomball Creative Writing Contest. These entries are submitted to a panel of faculty/advisor judges. The first place winner in each category receives $100; second place, $75; and third place, $50. All winners receive special recognition in the magazine and are recognized at the Student Excellence Awards Ceremony in the spring.
Art Selection Process, Art/Photography Contest, and the Cover Contest
When artwork and photographs are submitted to the magazine, the identities of the artists and photographers are concealed from the voting staff. Once the student staff has selected the pieces to be published in the magazine, those pieces are judged a second time as entries in the Inkling Cover Art Contest. The creator of the winning cover art piece receives $100. Additionally, all art chosen for publication is judged by a panel of faculty/advisor judges. The first place winner in each category receives $100; second place, $75; and third place, $50. All art/photography winners receive special recognition in the magazine and recognition at the Student Excellence Awards Ceremony in the spring.
