AFLAC - Supplemental Health

  • Accident Plan - Pays a benefit for the treatment of injuries suffered by a covered accident regardless of any other health insurance benefits you may receive.
  • Critical Illness - Provides a lump-sum benefit upon diagnosis for any of the following. Cancer, Heart Attack, Stroke, Renal Failure, Major Organ Transplant and more.
  • Hospital Indemnity Plan - Provides benefits for per day hospital confinement and additional benefits for intensive care, outpatient treatments received in a hospital ER or physician's room. Covers prescription drug benefits, well baby care, as well as surgery and anesthesia.

Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

Lone Star College employees in Texas may also be eligible for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) or Children's Medicaid. Both programs cover office visits, prescription drugs, dental care, eye exams, and other expenses. Learn more about what is covered here.

Direct Payroll Deposit

Lone Star College uses direct deposit for full-time and part-time employees. Employees have two options for direct deposit, either deposit through their own bank account or deposit through a US Bank Debit Card.

EyeMed Vision Care

EyeMed Vision Care Plan provides affordable, quality vision care, nationwide. Through EyeMed Vision Care Plan provider network, you will receive a complete eye examination, as well as materials (if needed). EyeMed Vision Care Plan is an alternative vision program that is not covered under the Health Select plan. HealthSelect Vision Discount Program and EyeMed Vision Care Plan are independent plans and the benefits do not run concurrently.

Education Assistance

All full-time employees are eligible for education assistance. Part-time employees who are regularly employed with Lone Star College and who have completed a full twelve months of consecutive employment with the System are eligible. Employment is considered "continuous" if the employee receives a paycheck in each of twenty-four (24) consecutive pay periods.

Eligible Lone Star College tuition and charges for credit courses, up to the applicable maximum, are waived under this policy. Tuition and fees for continuing education classes that have been approved by the employee's supervisor may also be waived. Lone Star College will waive up to a yearly maximum of $5,250 of the tuition and related fees for eligible courses taken at Lone Star College. Educational Attainment (Faculty)

LSC Faculty are encouraged to further their education. The degree must be completed while employed with Lone Star College. The degree must be from an accredited college or university (no trade schools, no certificates, and no licensures). The official transcripts and documentation must be submitted by prior to December 31 to ensure the request is processed before the last pay cycle of the fall semester.

Educational Attainment (Non-Faculty)

Non-Exempt full-time employees are also encouraged to further their education.  The degree must be completed while employed with Lone Star College. The degree must be from an accredited college or university (no trade schools, no certificates, and no licensures). The official transcripts and documentation must be submitted by prior to December 31 to ensure the request is processed before the last pay cycle of the fall semester. Employee Assistance Program

Allows full-time Lone Star College employees and their dependents are eligible to receive counseling and information about personal and family problems at no cost to the employee.  Professional advice is available on a confidential basis from family therapists, psychologists, and other professionals from an established counseling service contracted by LSC.

The Employee Assistance Program is a confidential counseling and information service for employees and family members which offers short-term assistance, up to five visits in handling personal problems.

Holidays and Paid Leave

Lone Star College recognizes that there are various reasons for an employee to need time off from work. Employees are asked to schedule leaves and absences as far in advance as possible, so coverage can be arranged.

Compensation is paid for leave described in the Board Policy.

The Chancellor shall designate the paid holidays to be provided to eligible employees during the twelve-month period beginning September 1. The holiday schedule shall be consistent with generally accepted practices in other institutions of higher education.

Pre-paid Legal Casualty, Inc.

Pre-paid Legal Casualty offers you affordable access to an attorney. The Pre-paid Legal Casualty plan is designed to give you and your family affordable access to legal services for your personal and work life. It is your benefit of protection against countless legal matters. Lone Star College employees have two plan options and can enroll in this benefit at any time within their employment. Coverage will be effective the first of the following month once the Pre-Paid Legal enrollment application has been submitted and processed. Current employees should speak with their Human Resources Manager or Specialist for details.

Short Term Disability

Lone Star College provides short-term disability to all full time employees of the System at no charge. All sick leave, compensatory time, sick leave pool if applicable and vacation must be exhausted prior to applying for short-term disability. A doctor's written notice is required. Monthly disability payments are equal to 60 percent of the employee's monthly salary up to 90 calendar days. The employee is allowed to apply for short-term disability one time per year. LSC short term disability is an individual plan and does not run concurrently with the short-term disability under ERS.

Wellness Program

All full-time employees are eligible to participate in the Wellness Program, which encourages Lone Star College employees to engage in fitness activity. Full time employees who engage in a minimum of three hours of exercise each week may receive up to one and one-half hours release time from their duties to participate in such activities.

The Wellness Program at LSC is designed to encourage employees to practice simple, positive lifestyle habits that increase quality of life, productivity, and longevity. Wellness incorporates such aspects as adequate fitness, proper nutrition, stress management, disease prevention, the value of spirituality, personal safety, smoking cessation, regular physical exams and screenings, health education and awareness, and environmental support.

Worker's Compensation

Full-time and part-time employees of LSC are covered by the State-required Workers' Compensation Insurance Program. The plan provides for the employee to receive benefits for qualifying injuries received while on the job.
