Certificate of Insurance & Contract Insurance Requirements
CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE & CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS
A Certificate of Insurance (COI) is merely evidence of the policies issued and in force at the time the Certificate of Insurance is issued. It does not provide assurance that the certificate holder will be notified if the policy is modified, expires, is extended or cancels. As governed by insurance law in all states, a Certificate of Insurance cannot extend or alter coverage provided in an insurance policy in any way. Certificates of Insurance can be viewed as a summarized, informational reflection of an insurance policy(s) and it conveys no rights or privileges. It is a “snapshot” in time.
Insurance guidelines also assist Lone Star College (LSC) with managing risk with the proper insurance requirements when contracting on behalf of LSC. They are guidelines only and no guideline, no matter how complete, is appropriate for all situations. The Office of Risk Management (ORM) can help you determine the limits to require for certain exposures based on the level of risk. For questions, please contact the Office of Risk Management at RiskManagement@LoneStar.edu or 832-813-6510.
