Celebrating the Collaborative Nature of the Arts

Sound of Art /Art of Sound Contemporary Music Festival*

A unique visual and musical experiences

In collaboration with Lone Star College-Kingwood Fine Art Gallery and the Lone Star College-Kingwood Music Department, the Houston Composers Salon will be the guest artists and residents for the college’s first Intermedia Festival. Featured events are FREE, and include: composer-collaborator talks with Chris Becker, composer for the “Windtopia” show by Mark Chen currently showing at the gallery; Art to Sound-a graphic notation and sonification workshop given by Aaron Bielish and members of the Houston Composers Salon; original works of sound in concert by the Houston Composers Salon; an EYEmusic interactive soundscape; a healing power of music demonstration by Barbie Butler; and a composers workshop. Events will be held in the Music Instructional Building (MUS) and the Performing Arts Center (PAC). The festival is partially funded by a grant from Houston Arts Alliance funded by The Texas Commission on the Arts. Lone Star Book Festival 2016, Reading for Our Lives

A world-class gathering of writers, books, and readers

The Book Festival is a diverse, multi-genre literary celebration featuring over 140 locally and nationally known authors, plus several keynote speakers including former Houston Astros great, Larry Dierker. The event will also feature a full slate of children’s and young adult authors as well as a musical petting zoo by Remo World Music, arts and crafts and live music on the Quad.
