FAQs for Math Tutoring
How does Math Tutoring Work?
The majority of our tutoring is through walk-in service. Students come and go throughout the day for assistance with their homework. Our tutors work with students on a first come/first served basis. Some areas utilize a secondary tracking system to make sure students are served in the order they arrive or require assistance. Depending on the subject, tutors may spend up to 20 minutes working through a single problem or concept with a student. On average, tutors spend 15 minutes per student before moving on.
How can I get the most out of walk-in tutoring?
Attempt the homework before you ask for the tutor. This allows you and the tutor to determine what you know and what you need to review. focus on one problem at a time and work on your own between ttoring encounters. Sit with others from the same course and work on problems together.
What if I want a private tutoring appointment?
Currently appointments are set based on instructor or counselor referrals. There cn be up to three students in each appointment. Students who receive appointments must sign a contract prior to sessions starting.
The Learing Center also keeps a list of private tutors for hire. Please ask for the list at the Courtesy Counter.Handouts and Online Resources
