CLEP®

In addition to the $89.00 non-refundable fee payable to the College Board online, Lone Star College System (LSCS) charges a $15.00 proctoring fee for administering a CLEP® exam at our facilities, and an additional $10.00 for any optional essays associated with the American Literature, English Literature, Analyzing & Interpreting Literature, and College Composition Modular CLEP® exams.

To Schedule a CLEP® exam at Kingwood...

  1. Verify with your school (most likely the Admissions or Advising department) that the specific CLEP® exam you are seeking to register for will issue you the appropriate college credit you need
  2. If seeking to take the American Literature, English Literature, Analyzing & Interpreting Literature, or College Composition Modular CLEP® exam, verify with your school whether you need to take the Optional Essay for these exams and what score you need to acquire on the online portion before taking this essay.
  3. If retaking a particular CLEP® exam, ensure that you have waited 6 months from any previous attempts before October 17, 2014 and 3 months from any attempts after this date.
  4. Officially register and pay for your CLEP® online at Register for an Exam or Register for an Exam.
  5. Ensure you have read the information about ID requirements, accommodations, etc.
  6. Call or e-mail our facility to schedule an appointment, ready to communicate which subject test you will be taking.
    • No CLEP® exams will be issued within 2 hours of our closing time
      • If taking an Optional Essay, please schedule earlier in the day or plan on taking the online portion and this written essay on two separate days

What to Bring on Test Day

  • Registration Ticket
  • CLEP®-approved ID
  • $15.00 to pay LSCS proctoring fee; additional separate $10.00 if taking an Optional Essay, contingent on the passing score required by your school

To promote test security, a distraction-free environment, and parity for all exam candidates, certain materials are not allowed in the testing room, including but not limited to:

  • Bags / Backpacks
  • Wallets / Purses
  • Cell phones
  • Watches
  • Electronic devices
  • Hats, caps, or other forms of headwear

Only items allowed to complete your exam will be allowed to enter the testing room.  Consequently, and given the limited storage capacity of our facility, it is in your best interest to travel as lightly as possible, leaving such items in your vehicle, if possible.  Otherwise, all such items will need to be stored away in a locker provided by our facility.
