College honored with marketing awards

Communication and design professionals from Lone Star College-Kingwood won a total of eleven regional and national awards this year for their promotional efforts.
The college received two MarCom Creative Awards, an international awards competition that recognizes outstanding achievement by marketing and communication practitioners: a Platinum award for the community email newsletter, KC Connections, created and edited by Ronda Meuwissen; and a gold award for the Lone Star College-Kingwood Recruiting DVD produced by KWC-TV, Lone Star College-Kingwood’s own cable channel headed by Manager Stephanie Gillette. There were 4,613 entries from throughout the U.S. and abroad in the 2005 competition.
The Admissions Marketing Report’s 21st Annual Admissions Advertising Awards also recognized the college, granting a gold award for the KWC recruitment video and a merit award for our e-mail newsletter.
Kingwood received four regional Medallion awards from the American Association of Community Colleges’ National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) competition, which includes Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming.
Pam Clarke, visual communications instructor and Designs in Print manager, received a gold Medallion for her “Cool Night of Hot Jazz” promotional poster. A silver Medallion was awarded to the college’s presentation folder, which served as design inspiration for the district’s spring and summer credit schedule covers.
Bronze Medallions were awarded to the college’s television station for their video documentary “Bordersville,” featuring service learning students as they restore a neglected cemetery. The college relations department also received a bronze Medallion for their email newsletter, a monthly communication piece sent to 2,000 community members.
The district’s Web project, unifying design and functionality among the five colleges and district sites, also received a bronze Medallion. Debbie Esparza, web manager for Lone Star College-Kingwood, participated on the team that was also awarded the distinction of official honoree for the Webby Awards by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences--the most coveted award in the web industry and sometimes referred to as “the Oscars of the Internet.”
On a national level, the college received two Paragon awards from NCMPR. Jason Ford, visual communications instructor, won two Paragon awards for his T-shirt and poster promoting the department’s annual video and film festival, a silver in the specialty advertising categories and a silver in the poster category.
