GCIC Vocal Masterclass with Soprano Cynthia Clayton (University of Houston) - 2:30-4:30pm

Cynthia Clayton, renowned soprano and associate professor of voice at the University of Houston, gives a masterclass sponsored by the Gulf Coast Intercollegiate Consortium (GCIC) for the benefit of voice students in area two-year colleges. The event is hosted by Dominick DiOrio, Director of Choral Activities at Lone Star College-Montgomery. The free masterclass will take place in the Recital Hall and is open to the public.

Unplugged Saxophone Quartet

The Unplugged Saxophone Quartet from Sam Houston State University will present an evening of outstanding music featuring works by David Maslanka, Gabriel Pierne and Jean-Baptiste Singelee. Performing on four different sizes of saxophone, the quartet demonstrates the beauty and versatility of this amazing instrument! Come hear the unique and awe-inspiring sounds created by this incredible ensemble.

Divergence Vocal Theatre Chamber Singers Concert
Ordinary-Extraordinary: the poignancy and power in the everyday

Misha Penton leads a collage program of vocal theater with the LSC-Montgomery Chamber Singers and their director, Dominick DiOrio. This concert will be the final product of a weeklong residency with Misha and Divergence Vocal Theater that will feature the students of the LSC-Montgomery music program performing solo songs, small vocal ensembles, and choral selections in new and intriguing combinations. Tickets are $10 general admission and $5 for students. All proceeds benefit the Lone Star College-Montgomery Music Department Scholarship Fund.

Queering the Pitch II: music for cello and soprano

Soprano Meredith Mecum and cellist Justin Dougherty will present a free recital of music by queer composers across the country on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 7:30pm in the Lone Star College-Montgomery Recital Hall. The recital features newly commissioned works for soprano & cello by composers Dominick DiOrio, Brian Kelly, Andrew Paul Jackson, and Bruce Trinkley. This recital is the second in a series of ‘Queering the Pitch’ recitals that seek to introduce and celebrate the great works of art being created by composers who are members of the LGBTQA community. The recital is sponsored by the LSC-Montgomery LGBT Alliance.

Jazz Ensemble Spring Tour Home Concert “Caravan”

Before embarking on a whirlwind tour to Austin, the Montgomery Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo will present a toe-tapping, rip-roaring concert of jazz favorites for friends and family at home. Jazz & Symphonic Band Concert

The Symphonic Band, Jazz Combo and Montgomery Jazz Ensemble unite for the final instrumental concert of the season! The Bands welcome guest soloist, Dr. Scott Plugge, Professor of Saxophone and Associate Director of the School of Music at Sam Houston State University. Having performed with the Texas Saxophone Quartet, the Dallas Wind Symphony and the U.S. Marine Band in Washington, D.C., Dr. Plugge performance will astound you! Dominick DiOrio conducts the LSC-Montgomery Chamber Singers in Zachary Wadsworth's chamber opera, Venus and Adonis. Using Shakespeare's famous text, Wadsworth has created a contemporary work of ethereal beauty and lyricism for soprano, tenor, choir, strings, alto saxophone, and piano. Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 students. All proceeds benefit the Lone Star College-Montgomery Music Department Scholarship Fund.
