Welcome to Art History & Humanities at LSC-Montgomery

Our Art History and Humanities courses provide students with an interdisciplinary and intercultural approach to a wide range of topics, periods, and locations. We encourage students to critically analyze visual/cultural production, interrogate the history of accepted scholarship, and practice socially and politically conscious visual literacy.

Art History & Humanities Student Symposium

The Department of Art, Humanities, and Theatre hosts an annual student symposium to provide students with formal presentation experience and to amplify exemplary student research in the fields of Art History and Humanities. Student research is selected by a committee for its academic contributions, the strength of writing, and the methodological approach.

Students must currently be enrolled at Lone Star College-Montgomery. The research paper may come from previous semesters dating back 1 year (Fall 2022 is acceptable for the 2024 symposium).

Courses

Art History: Prehistory to Gothic

ARTS 1303. 3 Credits (Common Core)

Prerequisite: College Level Readiness in Reading AND Writing. Offering Types: Online, Hybrid. Offering Frequency: Fall, Spring

Art History 1303 delves into the chronological study of art as an expression of culture. Students learn about specific movements throughout art history, essential terms and vocabulary, and place art within its cultural context.

Art History: Renaissance to Modern

ARTS 1304. 3 Credits (Common Core)

Prerequisite: College Level Readiness in Reading AND Writing. Offering Types: Hybrid, Online. Offering Frequency: Fall, Spring

Art History 1304 continues the chronological study of art as an expression of culture beginning in the Renaissance and continuing to present day. Note that Art History 1303 is NOT a prerequisite for Art History 1304.
