New Nursing Students at Lone Star College-North Harris
Welcome to the Lone Star College-North Harris Nursing Program! This page is for students who have applied for and been accepted into the North Harris Nursing Programs during the 2014 calendar year. Basic Track letters are sent out in April.  Articulation/Transition Track letters are sent out in April.  If you do not receive a letter within (approximately) a month's time after the application deadline, please contact the Nursing Department. Please do NOT lose your notification letter.

Summer/Fall Registration
You will not be allowed to register for any nursing classes (except RNSG 1301 Pharmacology) until after you have attended orientation. Instructions on registration will be provided at orientation. If you manage to register for nursing courses before you have been approved by the Nursing Department, you will be dropped from those courses. You also cannot register for nursing courses at any other campus.  Error messages and registration holds come from Admissions/Advising and must be removed by Admissions/Advising.Contact Admissions to resolve.

Camp Wanna Win
Camp Wanna Win is a series of events that are designed to give new nursing students an opportunity to meet faculty and current students while learning study and preparation techniques that will help students survive nursing school. The events for new nursing students are usually held during the week before classes begin. A flyer and additional information will be provided at the nursing orientation. This event is organized and staffed by the Lone Star College-North Harris Student Nurse Association.

Immunization Clinics/ CPR
Please do not attempt to turn in immunization paperwork until after orientation. Please do not get any shots (except Hep B) until you have thoroughly reviewed the Immunization FAQ sheet below and attended orientation. We will give you all of the information you need on required immunizations at orientation. However, if you have not completed the Hepatitis B series, please make arrangements to complete the series by July. Following is a list of immunization clinics in the Houston area. Please contact the individual facility for hours, prices, and services available.

Background Checks
Background checks will be required of ALL students. If you have accepted the offer of admission, you gave us authorization to release your social security number to the Texas Board of Nursing so that they can run a background check on you. If you have offenses on your record you will need to contact the Texas Board of Nursing at http://www.bon.state.tx.us/ to review their licensing policies. Your status will be reported to us by the Texas Board of Nursing. If we have a concern, you will be contacted. If you have not received BON approval to take the licensing exam and your background check shows an offense, your conditional acceptance will be revoked.

If you have not been issued a social security number, you will not be able to work in this country and therefore you should apply for a SSN as soon as possible. Please meet with the International Student Services office to discuss your issues and options (Student Services Building).

Basic Track Registration
Basic Track students are not allowed to register for any nursing classes (except RNSG 1301 Pharmacology) until after orientation. Specific instructions about registration will be provided at the nursing orientation.

Summer course: RNSG 1105. Class begins on Monday, July 28th and ends on August 17th. Comfortable street clothes are acceptable. This course is required of all students except current CNAs and EMTs.

Fall courses: RNSG 1523, 1119 & 1361. Classes begin on Monday, August 26th. You will not follow your registration schedule until at least the third week of class. Plan to be on campus from 8-5pm Mon-Fri the first three weeks of class. Everyone will meet in mandatory orientations on campus for the first two to three weeks of the fall semester. Please check LSC-Online/Angel after August 22nd for reporting instructions. You will NOT begin attending clinical until at least the third week of class. Again, you will not follow your registration schedule until at least the third week of class.

Error messages and registration holds come from Admissions/Advising (need new application, residency oath, and transcript holds, etc) and must be removed by Admissions/Advising.

Basic Track Required Course Completion
All students are admitted conditionally pending the completion of the required academic coursework. The required academic courses are listed below:

Before Nursing I: PSYC 2301, BIOL 2401, ENGL 1301 & RNSG 1105 (or credit through Texas Nurse Aide or EMT certification)

Before Nursing II: BIOL 2402 (& RNSG 1301 if not already completed beforehand)

Before receiving VNSG certificate: PSYC 2301, PSYC 2314, BIOL 2401, BIOL 2402, BIOL 2420, ENGL 1301, SOCI 1301, KINE, RNSG 1301 & RNSG 1105 (along with Nsg I RNSG and VNSG summer courses)  **Please note that at least 50% of the courses listed here must have been completed at Lone Star College to be eligible for the VNSG certificate.

Before Nursing III: BIOL 2420, SOCI 1301 & PSYC 2314

Before Graduation: SPCH 1311 or 1318, KINE 11--, & FA/Humanities elective

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR ARTICULATION TRACK STUDENTS

The articulation program at LSC-North Harris is a full-time, day program. No evening, online, or weekend options are available. More specific information regarding registration will be discussed at the nursing orientation.

Summer 2014 courses (Tentative): RNSG 1260 and RNSG 1417. More information, as well as calendar, will be posted via LSC-Online/Angel a couple of days before the semester begins.  Slight variations to the assigned schedule are to be expected throughout the semester.

Fall 2014 courses (Tentative): RNSG 2514, 2361 & 2173. Classes begin on Monday, August 26th. Please check LSC-Online/Angel BEFORE the first day of class to check for the orientation schedule. Angel will not be updated until a couple of days before the semester begins. You will not follow your assigned schedule for the first 2-3 weeks of class.
