Our Language Labs are exclusively for enrolled students and faculty interested in learning another language. If you're not currently enrolled at Lone Star College, don't worry! You can still access language resources on the library computers. Just remember, the Language Labs are separate from the library and are specifically for academic language instruction.

Policies for Faculty in the Labs
- During scheduled Instructed Lab, instructors should be present at all times to answer questions from students.
- Lab staff do not sign instructor-made handouts to confirm student visits to the language labs: please check your email for detailed lab reports.
- Please be so kind as to provide at least 24 hours notice for any cancellations in order to free up times to that would otherwise be considered unavailable to your colleagues.
- Instructors are asked to encourage students to visit the labs as often as possible, informing them of our location, open lab hours, software, and policies (refer your students to https://www.lonestar.edu/asc-language-lab.htm).
- To communicate lab reservations, please use the online form. Shortly after communicating your request(s), you will be sent a confirmation notifying you of all reserved dates and times, including any conflicts with current lab scheduling. Please note that confirmations for reservations are sent to Lone Star College System e-mail addresses only.
- Individual training on laboratory equipment (including the Sony systems) is available by reservation with the Language Labs staff.
- Instructors are very strongly encouraged to attend the faculty lab introduction and the training session on the Sony equipment once a year.
- When requesting lab introductions for class visits, please limit your requests to language related tasks that can be carried out using the software and equipment unique to the language labs. For assistance with general instructional technology (for example, e-mail access, Excel formatting, LSC-Online usernames and passwords, Colleague, etc.), please visit the LSC-CF OTS Service Desk (TECH 120, 281.318.4357) or the LSC-CF LED (TECH 105, 281.290.3911).

The Language Labs promote language learning by using technology to teach, practice, and maintain foreign language skills. Here’s what the labs offer:
- Practice listening, speaking, visual, gestural, and written language skills.
- Provide open labs for independent language practice.
- Support classroom language instruction.
- Host instructor-guided classes that use technology.
During open hours, students can use individual computer workstations to study languages between classes. All students interested in learning another language are encouraged to visit the labs to improve their classroom skills. For more information, contact cflanguagelab@lonestar.edu or call 832.482.1070.
Rules and Regulations of the Labs
- The lab computers are for currently enrolled students interested in learning another language.
- Students are asked to consult the Open Lab hours posted outside the doors of the labs & plan their visits accordingly.
- Students may be asked to move to a new seat or leave (at the instructor’s or coordinator's will) if present at the beginning of an instructed class (reservation times will be posted outside the doors of the labs).
- Students are asked to treat all equipment with care and to leave the lab stations in order.
- Students should have basic computer literacy. Students in need of computer instruction are encouraged to visit the library for free classes on a variety of computer topics.
- Students viewing materials that are in violation of the Lone Star College System ‘appropriate use policy’ will be asked to leave and may be banned altogether from the labs.
- Students are NOT to alter any of the settings on any computer without prior permission from the language lab staff.
- The viewing and writing of e-mail, unless immediately related to your current language assignment, is prohibited in the labs (please use one of the computers elsewhere in the library for e-mail and social networking).
- Inquiries regarding instructional assignments are to be addressed to the instructor.
- Lab reports containing lab usage information are for faculty and staff only. Please ask your instructor for your most recent tally of lab usage hours. We do not generate reports for students.
- The printers are for faculty and staff use only.
- Food and drinks are not allowed in the lab. Please enjoy them elsewhere.
- No loud talking, and cell phones should silenced at all times.
- Children are not allowed in the lab.
- Students found in violation of any of these policies risk being permanently banned from visiting the labs.
LANGUAGE LAB STAFF WILL NOT:
• Complete your assignments for you,
• Answer instructional questions,
• E-mail assignments to your instructor,
• Tutor you in a specific language (please visit Tutoring Services for this).
ESOL Tutor
An ESOL tutor is available, in the tutoring area, to support LSC students as they work on improving their English language skills. Walk-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit ESOL & Languages Tutoring for more information.
