The ESOL Program at Lone Star College–Kingwood is designed for non-native English speakers who want to learn or improve their English grammar, listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing skills. ESOL is for students and working professionals wishing to build practical English skills for general, academic, or professional purposes.
ESOL program offers courses in reading, grammar, writing, and oral communication in five levels from beginning to advanced. All courses help students enhance their fluency and accuracy in both spoken and written English. Small class sizes allow each student a maximum amount of individual attention from highly-qualified instructors. The program uses the most current teaching methods. Students have access to a state-of-the-art computer lab with the latest software programs and Internet resources.
ESOL students may obtain nontransferable credits or continuing education units (CEUs), depending on their enrollment. In general, students who are US citizens or permanent residents (green card), as well as students who are on an F-1 visa, enroll as CREDIT students. Others register through Continuing Education (CE).
LSC-Kingwood is authorized to issue the I-20 for students who need to obtain an F-1 visa (student visa) to study at Lone Star College – Kingwood. All new international students must attend an international student information session during their first semester.
ESOL program serves a diverse group of students from over fifty countries. Some students are immigrants who have made the United States their home; others are international students who are in the U.S. to pursue an academic degree. The program also caters to professionals and their families who are in the country temporarily to work and improve their English language skills.
Students who complete the Academic ESOL courses may move directly into academic studies at LSC-Kingwood, apply for admission to other colleges/universities, or return home with enhanced English language skills to apply to their work or studies.
